Annabeth's Point of View - The Battle of the Labyrinth - First Kiss (2024)

This is the chapter where Annabeth first kissed Percy, right before he was blasted to Calypso's island.

Enjoy!

I had my invisible cap on, and Percy was no where to be seen.

I should have been angry with him, but all I felt was dread. Out of all the places we could have seperated, we had seperated here, where hundreds of monsters were taking refuge.

"Annabeth!"

His voice called out to me, and I whipped around to see him looking as terrible as I felt. His normally sea green eyes were wide and the sky made them dark.He was running, pale and clammy, trying to find me.

The second he passed, I tackled him.

"Shh!" I hissed, forcing him behind a giant broze couldren. "You want to get us killed?"

The relief of seeing him vanished, and I felt the anger I supposed to feel in the first place rise. Why would he go around shouting? It would track down monsters - something we didn't need.

His hands gently clutched my shoulders, which were invisible to him, but I couldn't help the goosebumps that rised - and I felt irritated that he had that offect on me. His hands went up my neck and over my hair, which was starting to friz, and he tore the cap off my head.

I scowled at him. “Percy, what is your problem?”

“We’re going to have company!” His voice was loud and I felt like hitting him for it, but when he explained about all the monsters he just ran from, I felt that he had already done damage.

“So that’s what they are,”I said, slightly disappointed that I hadn't thought of it sooner - I should be more focused, this was my quest.“Telekhines. I should’ve known. And they’re making…Well, look.”

We both looked over the cauldren, to see four sea demons, who looked fully grown. They had black skin that seemed to glisten in the firelight, and it almost looked dark purple when the sparks they were creating while hammering a glowing hot metal flew close by them.

“The blade is almost complete,” one said. “It needs another cooling in blood to fuse the metals.”

“Aye,” a second said. “It shall be even sharper than before.”

“What is that?” Percy whispered in my ear, making more goosebumbs rise as his cool breath tickled my skin.

I shook my head to clear it out.“They keep talking about fusing metals. I wonder—”

“They were talking about the greatest Titan weapon,” Percy informed me. “And they…they said they made my father’s trident.”

“Thetelekhines betrayed the gods,”I said, feeling supirior that I knew this and he didn't. “They were practicing dark magic. I don’t know what, exactly, but Zeus banished them toTartarus .”

“With Kronos.”

I nodded, but the dread I felt before was rising rapidly again.“We have to get out—”

No sooner hadI said that than the door to the classroom exploded and young telekhines came pouring out. They were stumbling over each other, shouting to go this way or that - obviously looking for Percy.

“Put your cap back on,” Percy said. “Get out!”

“What?”I shrieked. Why would he even say that? This is my quest, I couldn't leave him - Iwouldn't.“No! I’m not leaving you.”

“I’ve got a plan. I’ll distract them. You can use the metal spider—maybe it’ll lead you back to Hephaestus. You have to tell him what’s going on.”

He was still pale, and his eyes were hard and serious. He was serious, and he wanted me safe - out of the way. But his plans didn't always go the right way. If I left, how was I supposed to make sure he'll be safe?

“But you’ll be killed!”

“I’ll be fine. Besides, we’ve got no choice.”

He was stubborn, I knew he was, but this was beyond the normal stubborness he showed. He wasn't going to leave with me, that much I knew.

I stared so hard at him it could have been a glare. I remembered all his features; his windswept hair, his green eyes, his cheekbones, his tan skin, his muscled arms, his crooked teeth, his lips - but the expression he wore now changed all of his features. He wasn't that funny boy anymore that I thought of as a small crush, he was my best friend, determined to be my hero.

Something flickered in his eyes, and I had a feeling that he was lying to me about having a plan. The feeling of dread increased and I felt my eyes prickle. I did the only thing that my body had been aching to do the whole quest - I kissed him.

It wasn't earth shattering and passionate, but gentle and quick -a promise that I'll see him again.

“Be careful, Seaweed Brain.” I said softly, then I put my cap on and ran away as fast as I could.

The day I had first met Percy, I promised myself I wouldn't get attached. He was only going to be the leader of the quest I had wanted to go on ever since Luke went on his, nota friend or anything more.

But things changed quickly. Percy was too good - you either hated him or loved him, I tried to do the first, but that was near impossible. Now running away from him to get eaten by monsters was the hardest thing I've ever experianced.

It only became harder when I heard a horrible scream, and I turned around to see Percy, his head thrown back- in obvious agony. I skidded to a stop and started to run towards him, but water surged from out of him, lashing out in all directions and making me fly backwards, far away from Percy.

Was this good? I hope it was, I redid it about three times! Anyways, tell me any other part in any of the books that you would want to hear from Annabeth's point of view. Comment, please!
