Job Description And Duties
The Correctional Case Records Analyst is responsible for calculating and modifying inmate release and discharge dates, applying credits, enhancements, work credits, policies, and procedures to ensure that inmates are confined and paroled from prison in compliance with existing laws, new legislation, and imposed sentences. This includes interpretation of appropriate laws and researching complex legal directives, as well as processing, maintaining, and controlling inmate/parolee records, and acting as liaison with other units, institutions and agencies.

As necessary, the Correctional Case Records Analyst may act as lead person over other Records Office Staff.

This is a 12 month Limited Term position that may be extended to 24 months, with the possibility of becoming permanent.

Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s).

We are dedicated to enhancing public safety through the safe and secure incarceration of offenders, by providing effective parole supervision, and implementing rehabilitative strategies to successfully reintegrate offenders into our communities.

Special Requirements

Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If you are meeting Minimum Qualifications with education, you must include your unofficial transcripts/diploma for verification. Official transcripts may be required upon appointment. If it is determined an applicant does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position. Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board.

Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.

Pursuant to the Public Health Orders (Guidance for the Use of Face Coverings and State and Local Correctional Facilities and Detention Centers Health Care Worker Vaccination Requirement) issued by the California Department of Public Health and the directive Mandatory COVID 19 Vaccines and Testing for Institution Staff issued by the Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation (CDCR), all staff assigned to this post/position may be required to show evidence of full vaccination and booster for COVID-19, absent an approved reasonable medical or religious accommodation precluding them from vaccination.

Desirable Qualifications
In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

Knowledge of: Determinate and indeterminate sentence and parole laws; the classification process and purposes, activities, regulations, and functions of the California Department of Corrections, the Board of Prison Terms, the Narcotic Addict Evaluation Authority, and the Youth Authority as its operations relate to the California Department of Corrections; correctional administration; documents, forms, and processes used in the establishment, maintenance, control, and disposition of individual inmate and parolee criminal case records; training methods and planning and conducting in-service training programs; information disclosure statutes; California Department of Corrections' automated record-keeping systems.

Ability to: Define, interpret, and take action on legal documents and court orders; analyze inmate records and recognize and correct discrepancies and irregularities; prepare accurate and concise reports; make arithmetical computations; prioritize workload and meet deadlines; read and write English at a level required for successful job performance; make sound decisions and recommendations in regard to the record-keeping function; provide criminal identification services necessary to the administration of the Department of Corrections; disseminate information to administrative, legislative, and judicial agencies, attorneys, and the general public; learn, understand, retain, and recall a broad range of highly technical data and apply it to individual cases; follow oral and written instructions; communicate effectively with other staff, inmates, and informational sources; operate a personal computer to access, enter, and retrieve information; progressively perform more difficult and analytical tasks in the correctional case record-keeping process.
