A vision board is a visualization tool consisting of graphics, phrases, quotes, and affirmations that represent your goals and dreams for the future.
The simple exercise of curating your hopes and dreams into a visual representation—and looking at it regularly—is thought to allow you to subconsciously engage in the actions required to acheive those goals.
Where to Start
Before starting your vision board, I highly suggest taking my 30 Minute Vision Board Goal Planning E-Course to help you identify your goals and to prioritize your wants and needs. In the course, we will walk through how you can start with four categories that encompass your dreams, goals, and wishes, including but not limited to the following:
These topics will become the topic headings in your four quadrants, and I’ve provided the following prompts to get you started:
A SMART goal is a goal that is Specific, Measureable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely.
Some questions to ask before setting SMART goals include:
Where does this desire sit in terms of priority?
How much time or money does that activity or desire require? (Perhaps this just means something may take longer to achieve.)
What resources are needed?
Are there any barriers? ( i.e. Any setbacks or rules to be aware of?)
Answering the above questions may lead you to more steps and even more quesions, but in doing so you can split your tasks into bite-sized goals, and set a date, assign frequency, or specify outcomes in order to know when you have finally achieved your goals.
Get Creative
The quadrants above allow you to create a blueprint for your goals. Now you can take the time to create a creative and artistic vision board off of those goals, if that’s something that you desire.
Personally, I like to create a digital vision board using beaufiful images that correspond with the goals that I have set for myself. From there I set the vision “board” as my iPhone screensaver and look at it every chance I get.
I would love to see your vision boards created from these four quadrants. Feel free to connect with my instagram profile, @positivelystrongliving, to show me your finished vision board!
What goals do you want to achieve? When do you want to achieve your goals? How will you achieve them? What have you always wanted to do but never had the courage to do?
For example, a photo of you and your friends might be used to represent your goal of spending more time together. Vision board photos can be as literal or as symbolic as you want them to be.
Step 3: Create your vision board using PowerPoint, Word, or Canva, and make a digital collage of your inspiring images. I use Canva most of the time because I can add text in different fonts as overlays to make it even more motivating! Upload or copy/paste the photos you've chosen to your vision board.
Notes, photos and videos you take with the Milanote iPhone or Android app are added instantly to your boards. The Milanote iPad app lets you take the full Milanote experience anywhere.
Creating a vision board is a totally personal and customizable activity, so there's no one “major rule” or “best way” to do it. Everyone is going to have a unique way of bringing their vision to life.
In the course, we will walk through how you can start with four categories that encompass your dreams, goals, and wishes, including but not limited to the following: Experiences / Travel. Work / School. Dreams / Spiritual / Achievements.
A vision board is a collection of images that represent a person's goals, dreams, and aspirations. It serves as a visual reminder of a person's intentions and a source of inspiration and motivation.
Vision boards are used to help students think through what they want their futures to look like and set meaningful goals. Vision boards also serve as a way for them to visualize their definition of success and can become a personal roadmap to keep them on track.
