Dandadanepisode #8 has the tough job of following not only its best episode but one of this year's best and most gorgeous anime episodes in general, and it shows why this series is the best this season has to offer. The anime has been excellent so far, and it just set a high standard for itself with this viral episode.

Dandadan is a Shonen Jump+ manga written and illustrated by Yukinobu Tatsu, and studio Science SARU produces the currently airing anime. It revolves around the relationship of the two protagonists, Momo and Okarun, and they are thrust into a new world of aliens, ghosts, and the occult. Dandadan is one series to watch out for as it is currently blowing up onto the anime scene and only getting bigger.

Dandadan episode #8 is scheduled for release on November 21, 2024, at 12:26 AM Japanese Standard Time (JST). International viewers can catch the episode at 9:00 PM Pacific Standard Time, 11:00 PM Central Standard, and 12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time. The episode will be available to stream on Crunchyroll, Netflix, and Hulu.

For fans of the dubbed version of the anime, Dandadan will have a dub premiering the same day and time as the sub for all episodes. In addition to Japanese and English dubs, the episodes are also available in Deutsch and French.

What Happened In Dandadan Episode #7?

One Of The Best Anime Episodes In A Long Time

The episode begins with Momo and Okarun, who is carrying Aira, running through the warehouse to evade Acrobatic Silky. Due to the numerous obstacles in the way, Okarun struggles to keep up, giving the spirit a home-court advantage. Momo gets hit and falls, while Okarun continues to run, finding himself cornered. However, in her pursuit, the spirit becomes entangled in her hair and is unable to move. Momo rises and uses her powers to restrain the spirit, allowing Okarun to go full throttle and blast through her.

Although the spirit was defeated, Turbo Granny tells Momo and Okarun that Aira is dead. Shocked, the two try their best to do CPR and resuscitate her but to no avail. The spirit gets up and as the two get ready to fight and protect Aira's corpse, the spirit tells them that she can revive her by transferring her aura onto Aira with the help of Momo. Turbo Granny confirms this is possible, and although they're hesitant, they do it anyway. Granny however days that, as the spirit still has regrets, she will die and turn into nothingness instead of passing on to the other world. This is when the episode switches to Acrobatic Silky's backstory.

She used to be a single mother struggling with debt and surviving by doing all possible jobs (including prostitution) to give her daughter a decent life. They ate together, practiced ballet together, and were basically inseparable. Unfortunately, after she uses some of her money to buy her daughter a dress, their house is raided by two debt collectors who assault her and kidnap the daughter, injuring the mother fatally. After she does one last dance before jumping off a roof, she becomes a spirit who wanders around aimlessly, having forgotten her past.

One day, a little Aira, who can see ghosts, grabs her and calls her mommy by mistake, leading her to remember her lost daughter but mistaking her for Aira. The ghost then vows to protect her, turning into the dreadful Acrobatic Silky The scene switches back to the present, and as Acrobatic Silky is withering away, Aira, who has seen her memories through her connection, sees this and hugs her, calling her mother one more time, thus letting the spirit pass on to the other life peacefully.

This Episode Was An Emotional Gut Punch

The Bond Of Mother And Daughter Was Heartbreaking

This backstory was one of the most anticipated moments from this season, and studio Science SARU and the team went above and beyond to make it as emotionally impactful as possible. Everything from the soundtrack and visuals to the voice acting was perfect. However, the scene where Acrobatic Silky was dancing in the water was breathtaking. Furthermore, most of it was anime-original, and this is yet another instance where the anime is enhancing the source material and making it better while still being true to the manga's quirky and unique natures.

The Implications Of Aira's Revival Are Huge

While fans are rightfully going crazy about how good the episode was, the consequences of Aira coming back are interesting. She has received the aura of a powerful spirit, and just like how Okarun can use the powers of Turbo Granny, fans can expect that she will be able to use the powers of Acrobatic Silky. Furthermore, she will be part of the main cast going forward, and as controversial as she was, this episode at least humanized her and showed how she was still a good person despite her insecurity.

Dandadan has been on a roll so far and this episode really sold how good the series can be. More than a day later, it is still trending on social media and receiving praise for being one of this year's best episodes by far. A few more episodes are left until the series finishes out its first season, and it can already be concluded that it was wildly successful given the boost in manga sales and the increased number of fans.
