Was Jenna Fischer Really in Love with John Krasinski on The Office?

From the very first moment the duo appeared on screen, their connection felt so genuine that viewers could sense the love without being told. But how do actors create that kind of magic? In a 2016 appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, (via LA Times) Fischer shared her insights. She said,

John and I have real chemistry. There’s like a real part of me that is Pam and a real part of him that’s Jim, and those parts of us were genuinely in love with one another.

Their chemistry was so undeniable that both actors have shared stories about rooting for each other during auditions. Jenna Fischer revealed (via The Actor’s Life: A Survival Guide,) that when she got the call confirming she’d landed the role of Pam, her first question was whether Krasinski had been cast as Jim.

Both Fischer and Krasinski have admitted that neither could have been perfect for the role without the other as their counterpart. And as fate would have it, they both got the parts, going on to become one of the most beloved TV couples of all time.

How Jenna Fischer Made Jim and Pam’s Love So Believable!

When asked how she created such convincing chemistry with John Krasinski (this year’s People’s Sexiest Man Alive, by the way) without actually being in love with him, Jenna Fischer explained that it’s all about being authentically yourself.

She shared that when you bring that authenticity to your performance, the switch from actor to character becomes seamless. During a chat with Sam Jones in The Off Camera Show, she said,

How lucky am I that somebody called him to audition, thank God. I think a lot of times people think that chemistry is you’re in love with that person in real life, you’re gonna date or marry or have s-x, like that’s what chemistry is. But for me, chemistry is when you have to work the least to be most authentic as your character. So when I met John and I worked with John, I didn’t have to try at all!

Throughout the show, it’s clear that Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski weren’t just playing best friends, they truly shared a remarkable bond off-screen. Their incredible skill in their craft brought that connection to life in the most beautiful way. In real life, however, Jenna Fischer has found her Jim in husband Lee Kirk, while Krasinski has found his Pam in Emily Blunt!

The Office is available to stream on Peacock.
