Chapter Text

How long is a hero supposed to be strong?

You stare up at the morning sky, watching as the sun slowly crawls up inch by inch. Hues of dark orange and violet pink paint the sky; as if a talented artist popped open cans of paint and spilled them out onto the sky, pleasantly pleased with themselves as the colors melt and merge together to create a beautiful masterpiece. Hardly a cloud to be seen in sight. The sky is clear, alluring, the sun casting rays of sun down upon the earth and lighting up the world. A captivating sight, isn’t it? Taking the time to slow yourself down and hear nothing but the beat of your own heart and the singsong of birds.

How many more challenges until it’s their downfall?

Why can’t all mornings be as beautiful as this one? That sentence alone is enough to ponder about for hours, perhaps days, even. Because if someone stood in your shoes, they’ll understand that by taking the time to appreciate a quiet moment like this is enough to heal your anguished soul. You stand on a tall building, a cold morning breeze blowing gently against your body. You take in a deep breath and hold out your arms, eyes fluttering shut.

Will their fight be their final fight?

In your mind, you’re alone. You stand on top of the world and there’s no one else besides you; a young woman who desires to spend her years in peace. There’s no more fighting. No more worry. Just you and you alone. Perhaps, in this lonely world of yours, you allow someone in; someone who’s taken your heart and is willing to love you. It’s okay, right? To love someone without the fear of them being used against you. Without the fear of something happening to that person.

Are they willing to continue to put their life on the line?

Perhaps it’s safe. Safe enough to venture out of the little bubble you created and hop off the tightrope. The tightrope you kept yourself balanced on and struggled to stay afloat. One foot in front of the other, arms out to help balance your weight, cold sweat trickling down your back as you tell yourself not to fall. Fall into what? Fall into what, exactly? Because beneath you is an infinite void and you have no idea what will happen if you end up falling into it.

Is the hero satisfied? Happy? Willing?

You spin on your heel so your back is facing the sun and lift one leg up, curving your spine backwards. As someone who puts their life on the line, it’s up to you to pick yourself back up: no one else is going to do it for you. Blowing out a breath, you curl backwards until your foot is no longer standing on the edge of the building. You’re falling through the air, arms still spread out, eyes closed, and feeling as light as ever. The weight of the world isn’t on your shoulders. Expectations of the people gone. Right now, it’s just you and this moment alone together. You often like to fall to experience this over and over again, because it feels like you’re flying. Something to help stimulate your feelings and emotions until your mind is clear.

How long will it take until they’re done?

A smile spreads across your face and you open your eyes. You hold out your wrist and spew out webbing. The webs attach themselves onto a brick building and you swing yourself through the city of Nueva York, your cheers filling the morning air. You laugh in glee, spinning around and shooting out more webs. You go around buildings, run across cars, stop an early morning mugging and throw yourself upwards; you climb up building after building, using your webbing to help push you up. You plant your feet firmly into a flat surface and jump straight up into the sky. You stare back up at the sun and see it’s further up into the sky, clouds now beginning to sparsely surround it. You wave at the shining sun a moment before you fall back down. You continue to swing around the city, hoping to keep this warmth and happiness in your chest before it’s over.

Who will save the hero?
