How can McDonald’s change its name? How dare they. We can change the way we dress or the city we live in, and even jump from one love to another, all without leaving millions of souls in anguish. They say you can’t change your football team, although there are millions of pitiful souls who have done so at some point. But this is unheard of. McDonald’s is going to change its name to WcDonald’s and flip its gigantic ‘M’ to turn it into a ‘W’.
Who wants a WcDonald’s?
The restaurant chain will temporarily change its name to resemble how it appears in anime series, which flip the ‘M’ for copyright reasons, but the logo remains unmistakable. Starting Monday 26 February, McDonald’s will flip some ‘M’s and launch a new sauce (Savory Chili), packaging inspired by manga aesthetics, and even its own anime series, which will consist of four episodes. It will last until 18 March.

The episodes, pay attention, pay homage to the four most important subgenres of anime. These are action, romance, robot-themed (popularly known as mecha), and fantasy. The plot is as follows:
“The race to WcDonald’s”, which tells the rivalry between two characters and their epic race to a WcDonald’s.
“Love from Across the Booth”, in which the protagonists discover love at a WcDonald’s.
“WcNuggets Space Frontier 3000″. The protagonists must protect the last WcNugget from a sinister force.
“The Wisdom of the Sauce”. Three women are sent to a remote location to uncover a mystery about the special sauce.
In the series, there appears a man with a hamburger head, or a hamburger with a human body, depending on the viewer’s hunger. Also, a robot named WcDizzer 3000, a dragon, and a man with a spatula in hand, all designed by Studio Pierrot, the production company responsible for anime such as Bleach, Naruto, and Tokyo Ghoul. There will be new characters in this series, but the restaurant has already appeared on screens before. We have seen Shin Chan eat at a WcDonald’s, and the restaurant also appeared in Detective Conan.

If knowing the mysteries of the special sauce or saving the last WcNugget from a sinister force isn’t enough for you, you need to know two things. One, that your ambitions surpass human reasoning. What the heck is going on? The promotion is tied into an anime meme. To dodge copyright issues, the chain is often shown in anime series and films as WcDonald's, with the arches flipped. McDonald's, rather than fighting the alternate identity, has opted to lean into it to lure anime fans to its restaurants.
Since the 1980s, Japanese cartoons (anime) and comics (manga) have included fast food brand McDonald's Golden Arches in their media. But to avoid legal trouble, it became a tradition for studios and artists to flip the McDonald's iconic logo upside down, creating the WcDonald's restaurant in the process.

McDonald's has also partnered with the animation house studio pierrot to produce the first official WcDonald's anime. Starting Feb. 26 and lasting until March 18, 2024, McDonald's will release a new anime short and new manga every Monday.
WcDonald's is a fictional version of McDonald's that has appeared in over 100 different anime films and shows. The concept, with its flipped first letter, originates from a 1983 episode of “Cat's Eye,” a manga and anime franchise.
Critics claimed that a clown mascot targeting children for fast food is unethical. A group of 550 physicians and other health professionals took out newspaper ads in 2011, saying that Ronald McDonald should be retired. Ronald McDonald made fewer appearances since 2016 due to the 2016 clown sightings.

McDonald's is owned by different shareholders, as it's a publicly traded company. According to CNN Business reports, most of this company's owners are institutional investors, who make up 70.14% of the outstanding shares. Individual owners only make up about 0.31%.
"McDonald's loses the EU trade mark Big Mac in respect of poultry products," judges ruled. The U.S. fast-food chain, however, maintained it can still use the Big Mac trademark for its core beef sandwich and its Chicken Big Mac product.

Even though this is a big change, it is only temporary, and soon we will have our regular McDonald's back. Because of the trauma that she had experienced several times at the restaurant in the past, Sarah Blan added, “I won't be visiting McDonald's in the near future.”
McDonald's Corp. will likely report its first decline in domestic systemwide sales in at least 30 years, following a year of historically poor performance.
It's the same McDonald's. They changed it to WcDonald's because it is a well known trope in Anime cartoons that they place a WcDonald's sign when they go to a restaurant in order to avoid copyright issues, so they turn the golden arches upside down.
It was the first time since 2020 that quarterly same-store sales have fallen in that segment. The boycotts began in October, after the McDonald's franchisee in Israel announced it was providing free meals for Israeli troops involved in the war in Gaza. McDonald's has tried to limit the fallout.
The fast food chain recently dropped a new flavor of McNugget dipping sauce named after "WcDonald's," a cheeky fictional depiction of the company often seen in anime shows since, without proper licensing, McDonald's official name can't legally be represented in fictional settings.
McDonaldland came to an end in 2003. With the introduction of the "I'm lovin' it" campaign, McDonald's advertising began to focus more on adults and less on children.
